Lebedinsky GOK and OEMK

As part of the XXIX International Mineral Processing Congress (IMPC 2018), Metalloinvest is organising a site visit of its iron ore mining and beneficiation and high-quality iron ore raw materials and steel products enterprises.

On 21 September 2018, participants of the Congress will have the opportunity to visit Lebedinsky GOK (Gubkin) and OEMK (Stary Oskol), both of which are located in the Belgorod region.

Lebedinsky GOK is the largest enterprise in Russia for the mining and beneficiation of iron ore, and the production of high-quality iron ore raw materials and metallised products, and the only producer of hot briquetted iron (HBI) in Russia and the CIS. Lebedinsky GOK has been included in the Guinness World Records as the enterprise with the largest open-pit mine for non-combustible minerals.

Lebedinsky GOK’s product range includes iron ore concentrate, non-fluxed and fluxed pellets, as well as HBI, the most in-demand steel raw material, as well as the most resilient in periods of market volatility.

Metalloinvest plans to include visits to viewing platforms on the open-pit mine, HBI-3 Plant and the beneficiation facility as part of the tour programme.

An additional trip to OEMK will be held for Russian and international visitors on 21 September.

OEMK is the only full-cycle steelmaking enterprise in Russia, operating using direct reduced iron technology and electric furnace smelting, which enable the plant to produce metal that is virtually free from harmful impurities and residual elements.

OEMK produces direct reduced iron (DRI), cast square and rectangular billets, and square and pipe billets.

OEMK is a leader in the Russian high-quality steel bar (SBQ) market, a product which is in demand among automotive and mechanical engineering plants.

Metalloinvest plans to take visitors to Rolling Mill #2 and the finishing plant as part of its OEMK programme.

OEMK spans over 97 km2, which is the equivalent of 220 Vatican Cities. It is one third larger than San Marino (61 km2) and 45 times the size of Monaco (2.0 km2).

The total length of OEMK’s major pipes represents 523.8 km – longer than the distance from Stary Oskol to Moscow (495 km).

Metalloinvest is a leading global iron ore and merchant HBI producer and supplier, and one of the regional producers of high-quality steel.

The Company has the world’s second-largest measured iron ore reserve base with approximately 14.1 billion tonnes of proven and probable reserves on a JORC (IMC Montan) equivalent basis, which guarantees about 140 years of reserve life at current extraction rates.
